1. Wiremap Test (Continuity Check):

This function checks the continuity and wiring sequence of network cables (STP/UTP twin twisted cable), coaxial cables, and telephone lines.

  1. Connect one end of the cable to the Main Tester's appropriate port (e.g., RJ45 Master Port for network cable).
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to the Remote Identifier (NF-308-R).
  3. Turn on the Main Tester. Select "WireMap" from the menu.
  4. The display will show the wiring sequence and identify any open, short, jumper, reverse, or cross-talk errors.

2. Cable Hunting (Tracing):

Use this function to locate specific cables among a bundle or trace their path.

  1. Connect one end of the cable to the Main Tester's "Hunting RJ45 Port" or use the crocodile clamp cable for non-RJ45 wires.
  2. Turn on the Main Tester and select the hunting mode.
  3. Use the Receiver (NF-308-S) to trace the cable. The receiver will emit an audible tone that increases in volume as it gets closer to the target cable.
  4. Adjust the receiver's sensitivity (VOL) as needed.

Figure 8: PoE Live Line Finding with the Receiver.

3. Length Measurement:

Measure the length of network cables and telephone cables, and determine the distance to open or short circuits.

  1. Connect the cable to be measured to the Main Tester. For accurate measurement, ensure the cable is not connected to any active network devices.
  2. Select "Pair/Length" from the menu.
  3. The tester will display the cable length in meters or feet.
  4. If an open or short circuit is detected, the distance to the fault will be indicated.
  5. Calibración: For optimal accuracy, calibrate the device using a known cable length greater than 5 meters.

4. Port Flashing:

This feature helps identify the port on a switch or router to which a cable is connected by causing the port's LED to flash.

  1. Connect the Main Tester to one end of the network cable.
  2. Connect the other end of the cable to a port on the network switch/router.
  3. Select "Port Flash" from the menu.
  4. Observe the LEDs on the switch/router; the connected port's LED will flash, allowing for easy identification.

5. Polarity Test:

The NF-308 can perform a positive and negative polarity test, useful for certain wiring configurations.

  1. Connect the cable to the appropriate port on the Main Tester.
  2. Select the polarity test function (refer to the device's on-screen menu if not explicitly listed as "Polarity Test").
  3. The display will indicate the polarity status.

Mantenimiento

  • Limpieza: Utilice un paño suave y seco para limpiar el dispositivo. No utilice limpiadores abrasivos ni disolventes.
  • Almacenamiento: Store the NF-308 in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
