6. Instrucciones de funcionamiento

The CL1000-SF3 offers a range of testing functions accessible from the main menu. Navigate the menu using the touch screen or the directional buttons and 'OK' button.

6.1. OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer)

The OTDR function is used to characterize optical fibers, measure fiber length, attenuation, splice loss, and detect faults.

  1. From the main menu, select 'OTDR'.
  2. Connect the fiber under test to the OTDR optical port. Ensure connectors are clean.
  3. Configure test parameters such as wavelength (1610nm), pulse width, range, and measurement mode (Auto/Manual).
  4. Press 'Start' to begin the measurement. The OTDR trace will be displayed on the screen.
  5. Analyze the trace for events like splices, connectors, and fiber breaks. The device provides automatic event detection and analysis.

6.2. VFL (Localizador visual de fallas)

The VFL emits a visible red laser light into the fiber to quickly locate breaks, bends, and faulty connectors over short distances.

  1. From the main menu, select 'VFL'.
  2. Connect the fiber to the VFL optical port.
  3. Active el VFL. Observe la fibra para detectar cualquier fuga de luz visible, lo que indica una falla.

6.3. OPM (Medidor de potencia óptica)

The OPM measures the optical power level of a fiber optic signal.

  1. From the main menu, select 'OPM'.
  2. Connect the fiber carrying the optical signal to the OPM optical port.
  3. El dispositivo mostrará la potencia óptica medida en dBm o mW.

6.4. OLS (Optical Laser Source)

The OLS provides a stable optical signal for various tests, often used in conjunction with an OPM for loss measurements.

  1. From the main menu, select 'Laser Source'.
  2. Connect the fiber to the OLS optical port.
  3. Select the desired wavelength and output power.
  4. The OLS will emit a continuous wave or modulated signal.

6.5. Mapa de eventos

The Event Map function provides a simplified, icon-based view of fiber optic events, making it easier to interpret OTDR results without needing to analyze complex traces.

  1. After performing an OTDR test, select 'Event Map' from the menu.
  2. The device will display a graphical representation of the fiber, showing icons for splices, connectors, and other events along with their distances and losses.

6.6. Loss Testing

This function is typically used for end-to-end optical loss measurement, often requiring an OLS at one end and an OPM at the other.

  1. From the main menu, select 'Loss Testing'.
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to set up the test, which usually involves connecting to an OLS and measuring the received power.

6.7. Network Cable Test (RJ45)

The RJ45 Cable Test function is used to verify the continuity and wiring configuration of Ethernet cables.

  1. From the main menu, select 'Network Cable Test'.
  2. Connect one end of the RJ45 cable to the device's RJ45 port and the other end to a remote unit (if provided) or loopback connector.
  3. Initiate the test. The device will display the wiring map and detect any open, short, or cross-over faults.

7. Mantenimiento

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your CL1000-SF3 OTDR.

  • Limpieza de puertos ópticos: Always keep optical connectors and ports clean. Use lint-free wipes and optical cleaning solutions. Contaminated connectors are the primary cause of inaccurate measurements and potential damage.
  • Cuidado de la pantalla: Clean the touch screen with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
  • Almacenamiento: When not in use, store the device in its protective case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Cuidado de la batería: For long-term storage, ensure the battery is partially charged (around 50%). Recharge periodically if stored for extended periods to prevent deep discharge.

8. Solución de problemas

If you encounter issues with your CL1000-SF3 OTDR, try the following basic troubleshooting steps:

  • El dispositivo no se enciende: Asegúrese de que la batería esté cargada. Conecte el cargador e inténtelo de nuevo. Si el problema persiste, contacte con el servicio de asistencia.
  • Mediciones ópticas inexactas: Clean all optical connectors and ports thoroughly. Ensure the correct test parameters are selected for the fiber type and length.
  • La pantalla no responde: Try restarting the device. If the touch screen remains unresponsive, use the physical navigation buttons if possible, or contact support.
  • RJ45 Test Failure: Verify the RJ45 cable is properly connected at both ends. Check the cable for visible damage.
